Friday, November 19, 2010 – 12:00 Noon at Coffee D’Vine
Thank you all for coming. After significant and deliberate soul-searching; listening to the voices of many Huntington citizens and with the support of my wife, my three daughters, and my two son-in-laws, I am here today to announce my candidacy for the office of mayor of the City of Huntington.
It has been my great privilege to grow up in Huntington
To graduate from Huntington North High School in 1977
To work in the City of Huntington Engineer’s office from 1978 – 1981
To graduate from Huntington University in 1981 and again in 1987.
It has been my sincere pleasure to work and raise my family in Huntington.
It has been my personal passion to serve the Huntington community
As a long-time United Way volunteer
As an active member of the Huntington Rotary Club and College Park Church
As a community servant to Pathfinder Services, Huntington University, McKenzie’s Hope and the Boys and Girls Club
As a City Councilman, representing the Second District – and as the City Council’s representative on the board of Huntington County United Economic Development
The challenges we face as a community are great, but our capacity for meeting those challenges is even greater – The challenges we face as a community are not going to go away overnight, but our creative and concentrated efforts to meet those challenges must begin today.
I am a believer in the power of the people of Huntington to work together to make a difference! I have seen our resolve in the face of adversity. I have seen our generosity in response to the needs of others. Together we can exercise fiscal responsibility. Together we can find ways to be more efficient. Together we can help our neighbors. Together we can build a better future for ourselves; for our children and for our City. Together we can attract, expand and retain livable wage jobs to our City. Together we can move this city forward.
Sensing a call upon my life to a greater level of community service, I believe now is the time for me to step up and make myself available to lead our city forward. A mayor must be a leader – a bold, servant leader of equals – an inspirational leader of fellow citizens. The important work of moving this city forward requires shared vision, clear-minded determination, patient perseverance, and the inclusive involvement of everyone who calls Huntington home.
The important work of moving this city forward can’t be done by one person – I need your help, because –
no one of us is as strong as all of us –
no one of us is as talented as all of us –
no one of us is as smart as all of us –
no one of us is as determined as all of us.
It would be the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of Huntington as their next mayor.
Mark your calendars today to vote May 3, 2011. I need your vote. Let’s move this great city forward together!
Once again, thank you all for coming. God’s best to you and those you love this Thanksgiving season.
